I think ESPN and other media are playing it up for ratings, but the sports world seems to be up in arms about "Trump's criticism of LeBron" which I really don't understand.
If LeBron was just a star athlete doing his job, then Trump's tweets and comments would be mean-spirited. LeBron, for all of his flaws, seems like a reasonably respectable man and it would be rude for Trump to just randomly tweet about him for no reason.
But that's not what happened at all though.
LeBron injected himself into the process and IMO becomes a fair target. At the very minimum he did the following:
At what point is Trump allowed to attack his attackers and defend himself and supporters?
On the rough streets that many of these athletes claim to come from, one of the rules is that you fight back against people who attack you. Trump is just keeping it real. He didn't randomly tweet about athletes that didn't insult him or his supporters or the flag. Am I missing anything obvious here? Trump is a counterpuncher, nothing more. He only says mean things about people who hit him first.
