I know reading is hard but words have meaning

, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

If you're given an order that you know goes against the UCMJ, you're duty-bound to disobey. So if an officer tells you to, I don't know, execute an unarmed civilian, you're supposed to disobey and "tell on him".

Being a soldier is a bizarre trade. So much immaturity and politics in a realm where "killing the enemy" is the primary objective. Filled with contradictions. But war is a messy business, isn't it?
