This. Old World diseases had already spread up to North America and killed off most of the native population before Jamestown and Plymouth were established. There was almost no one here, and native groups often collaborated with whites, at least at the beginning.

We've come a long way in how we deal with the issues of aboriginal peoples... Unfortunately the history of their treatmentnisn't a pretty story. Lots of children reeducated and lots of non-integrated people forced onto reservations or killed. Canada is guilty too. Also, Canada is a British state. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statute_of_Westminster_(1931)

I'm talking about the conditions when the first English-speaking colonists arrived in North America. Are you retarded? Do I need to write shorter sentences?
There were trade routes between North and South America. Diseases like smallpox traveled quickly via these routes and killed most of the native population off before white people arrived in North America. There was almost nothing left of the mound-building cultures in the Midwest, for example.
