what is going on there?!! didn't ireland side with the krauts in wwII? that took some balls to buck the rest of europe.

They didn't side with Germany, they stayed neutral. It was too soon after the war of independence to ally with Britain for most people and allying with Germany would have gotten the country invaded extremely quickly.

Individual Irishmen fought on both sides, but that's true of almost every major european conflict in that last 300-400 years or so.
