America is stuck in a one party system which represents the interests of large corporations and a deep state that actually rules and determines policy - Democrats and Republicans are two faces of the same party. They only appear different because the ruling oligarchy finds it useful to fool the electorate into thinking that they have a choice and participate in a Democracy - it helps to keep us fools in line.

For those wondering, this isn't an exaggeration. That is an accurate breakdown of the Irish political landscape. Even when you consider all the small parties not represented in the Dáil they're almost all Socialists of some stripe or other.

Imagine an entire country run by the Clintons, where the opposition are also the Clintons and all fringe politicians and independents are Bernie Sanders. That's Ireland. Bono is pretty low on the list tbh.

what is going on there?!! didn't ireland side with the krauts in wwII? that took some balls to buck the rest of europe.

There are two major parties in the US, but many more, most of which aren't influential to make a difference but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

In practice the first past the post system ensures a duarchy, whereas single transferrable vote allows more competition. It's just ridiculous in Ireland that all the competition are controlled soros ops.

I don't understand that at all.
