If Trump is bluffing, that's one thing. If he pushes for gun control that he ultimately signs, that is a betrayal of the highest magnitude. No way to spin it if we are being honest with ourselves.

I still haven't seen it demonstrably shown he's pushing for gun control. I just see someone smiling and nodding to a bunch of immature children's shrieking demands. Once a bill has successfully made it to his desk and he stamps it approved or veto'd, I will finally have cause to judge the actions of the man responsible. Before that, it's all just a Game of Drones.

Doesn't it really depend on what the bill he pushes or supports says? If the bill itself would cement and even byzantize the most we could expect from a protection of the second amendment then it would be a good thing. The left would even outright lose a talking point. However, no matter what it says, the thing is, it will still be called gun control.

He wants to run a second term, pissing us off won't accomplish that, means he's got plans in motion that benefit us.

What "both sides"? Currently it's quite literally Trump vs. both Democrats and Republics, neither of which care about the people and are only concerned with lining their own pockets and continuing to sell America's future to the highest donor.

He's personally blocking CCW reciprocity. How do you reconcile that?

[–] obvious_throwaway1 [S] 3 points 14 points (+17|-3) ago  (edited ago)

But he did't. I read your link. How exactly do you interpret that he blocked it? Allow me to quote before clarifying:

During the meeting, which also included prominent Democrats, Trump told House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., who was gravely injured in a mass shooting this summer, that a comprehensive gun bill would not pass if it included a concealed carry reciprocity proposal desired by Republicans.

“You know, I’m your biggest fan in the whole world,” Trump told Scalise. “I think that bill maybe one day will pass, but it should pass as a separate. If you’re going to put concealed carry between states into this bill, we’re talking about a whole new ball game.”

I read that Trump said, "Look.. Concealed Carry Reciprocity may one day pass, but not today with the harsh gun stance of the blue states - so if you force that into a comprehensive gun bill then the bill won't get anywhere". All he did was state that it would have to be it's own bill and would be too complex to add to any comprehensive gun bill.

Maybe try some reading comprehension? It helps to actually read more than the headlines..

He is holding that one back so it doesn't die in an already dead bill.

It's quite the opposite of what you claim.

that a comprehensive gun bill would not pass if it included a concealed carry reciprocity proposal desired by Republicans.

Meaning he wanted the gun bill to pass and the CCW would sabotage that. Then he went on a bullshit tangent on how the CCW "might some day pass, but just keep it away from me faggot"

I'm still pissed he would even consider raising the purchase age to 21.

Given the number of times Trump has either said something and had the media twist it into something else (what, 99% of the time?), or the number of times Trump has said something and then sat down with smart people who talked him out of it and changed his mind (crazy idea, I know) - what makes you think this is actually significant until it has more impact than just being talked about or considered?

I mean, shit, we talk about and consider all sorts of stupid shit every single day, but that doesn't mean it comes to pass. You're smarter than that, dude, that's just manipulation.

Should the libshits get what they want and have 16 y/o voting, Generation Zyklon would decrease all age limits to 14. I guarantee it.

They wanted the CCW section in the bill to sabotage it. Killing a federal bill would mean sapping all the momentum from the independant, state-level ccw reciprocity movement--and thats exactly what I would do to kill the reciprocity movement if I was a short sighted democrat. And if I were a long-sighted democrat I'd push the bill through, with the intent or hope of using it to fuck with the states once the democrats come back into power.

Trump knows this so he put the kabosh on the bill.

He's just letting them waste political capital on something that will never pass. War by attrition. See which angle your opponents coming from and then pivot to either entrap them (the counter to the blitzkrieg during ww2), or pivot to fight them (southern strategy during the civil war).

It looked like Feinstein had an orgasm when President Trump told her to put her anti-gun proposals on the bill(s).

It's funny because it's literally his design to make the bill totally impossible to make it to his desk. It will never pass through congress with her crazy shit in it.

The problem with framing shootings as a mental health problem is that people may go untreated because they fear losing their rights. If going to therapy disqualifies people from gun ownership, a lot of people may stop going.

Just curious - Is it intellectually honest to be so absolute before you've been shown what is intended, in regards to mental health? Especially when from what I can see, the information is being delivered exclusively by Opinion Editorial outlets as.. their opinion.

Not attacking you, genuinely curious how you approach that.

People have been asking why mentally ill people can have access to guns. Even if patients' rights weren't threatened, they might stop treatment if they think they are threatened. I don't know what actual proposals there have been. The right seem to mostly use it to deflect blame without having a real plan.

I live in NY, and the NY SAFE Act is a nightmare. It requires your doctor to tell the police if they think you're violent or whatever. Now the bar is pretty high, and most therapists won't do it, but it places a seed of doubt in the minds of people who already have issues.

Mental illness is a wide term that encompasses many diseases and many people. Not all of them are the same. Anxiety and borderline personality disorder are completely different. The law doesn't seem to care, with the police confiscating weapons from people who have taken antidepressants or ADHD medications. It has only happened a few times, but it puts the fear into the people that it hurts the most. They'll stop taking their meds so that they can have their guns back.

I still can't get behind the 1st (4) better to live in dangerous freedom than safe tyranny.

9 day account. Ok. I'll bite.

Can you please explain what you mean both by dangerous freedom and safe tyranny? Neither are extremely descriptive in relation to modern US politics without clarification.

It's an Alt. I have been here since before the Ellen Pao migration days. But when I get death threats and fishing messages and such I quit the account and start over. I know there is no way to prove this without wrecking my new account so I can't really prove it but that is the truth. We have talked before so maybe you can guess me. :) PM me your guesses ha ha and I will reply with my real name.

Yeah it is a quote from "V the Gorilla Economist" on Rogue Money. Dangerous freedom... This would essentially the wild west. You have your 6 shooters and your gold coins. You have your cabin and your homesteaders section. Cops are far away and services are minimal. Get hurt? Get robbed? Act stupid and you pay. Dangerous freedom.

Safe tyranny: this is a good description of the world today. Safe is kind of a joke word that makes the whole thing work. The point is that the tyranny is actually far less safe than the dangerous freedom. It just appears safe. It has the word safe on the box so to speak. I like a good quote. I have a wall dedicated to them.

My man, I'm tired of hearing people say 4D chess and other bullshit. I've yet to see any of it come to fruition. I'm also tired of hearing people yell SHILL!!! every time someone has a different opinion. That's not what a shill is. It's like retards who use the word troll wrong.

Here's the cold hard fuckin' truth son. Trump is not any kind of God Emperor. He chose to surround himself with kikes top to fuckin' bottom and now he's caving into some the shit that not even a fuckin' gay nigger democrat had the fuckin' balls to try. just what the fuck do you call that hmm?

I still support him mostly, and will vote for him again unless a REAL red blooded mother fucker manages to run, but I doubt it.

It is not a small thing to step on what Pence had just said by suggesting he supports confiscation without due process first. Saying due process comes later is another way of saying there is no due process. His correction is hardly better since it ignores that determining there is a danger is the essence of providing due process. He is suggesting that without having to have proved anything to a court or having given a person any chance to defend themselves, the cops could just grab someone throw them in jail, take their guns, and only then will it go to court.

Regardless how this all plays out, I do not think reactions to what he said are overblown.
