That would be a good start, followed by the rest of religious groups.

Tithing/donations to any church should not be taxed. If the church has any monetary investments or commercial enterprises, then it should absolutely be taxed at the same rate as everyone esle (but still not tithing or donations).

Edit: by "any church" I don't mean cults. I mean actual known and accepted religious organizations.

Christianity was a cult. Now it has tax free status. Still deserves to be taxed. Its a business that caters to its own people and virtue signals to get more shekels.

In some places you can't legally buy weed from the dispensery but you can donate money for a specific amount of weed in return. Time to start the church of the burning bush!

If we're going to make gifts non-taxable, we should do that for all institutions (family, charity, etc). There is nothing special about church in this regard, unless you believe government should incentivize religion rather than secular charities, or family lineages.

How about we just don't apply income tax to anyone. That worked very well the first 150 years of our country. :)

Churches were responsible for education and building hospitals. They handled welfare for the poor until the 1930's. Religious groups can't be allowed to keep riding on the coattails of past history.

Schools and hospitals that are run by religious groups get tax breaks for the specific work they do. That's enough.

I would remove those tax breaks for schools and hospitals as well. Jesus Christ said to give Caesars things to Caesar but God's things to God. God only wants your love, he does not need or want your money. Only the synagogue of Satan requires tax exempt status because they are fake and they know it, they openly admit it's just a culture for them.

L. Ron Hubbard set up the Church of Scientology - and to get an insight into his line of thought you should read his novel Battlefield Earth - skip the movie - the movie sucks - but the book is quite revealing of how old L. RON was thinking before he created the Church. I read that book a long time ago. He had a more Sci-Fi view of the human condition - similar to the first generation Star Trek type thinking of the 60's.

Hubbard was clearly exploiting the Freedom of Religion aspect of the American system when he decided to do this - in part because in L. Ron's view, the existing religions are fraudulent and are enjoying an unfair competitive economic advantage - why should he not do the same? So Scientology exploits the separation of church from state loophole.

The problem for the state is an issue of fairness (impartiality) under the law. The law has to be applied equally and blindly in order to preserve freedom. The state cannot go around picking favorite religions while maintaining the claim to impartiality.

In essence, if we are to open the door by removing Scientology's tax exemption - while attempting to maintain impartiality - what we are really doing is opening the door to the removal of all religious tax exemption. I am not at all certain the churches really want to go there.

I'm more impressed with the people in the comments who legit are hating on this simply because it's something Trump is proposing. How much hate do you have to have for one person to be willing to be PRO-scientology?

this sums up quite well why uniforms always make me feel uneasy. they all have the touch of a cult.

The military is meant to tear you down and re-mold you into a soldier - so of course there is going to be uniformity.
