As long as the religious people can claim that being gay or lesbian is a 'choice' then they will refuse to consider that gays and lesbians just might be born with that sexual orientation. Hermaphrodites are a physical contradiction of that 'choice' premise so therefore they will ignore the fact that these people exist. Not one religious person (Jew, Muslim, Christian) has ever attempted to explain to me how their gods, goddesses, or mere random genetic scrambling created these people. I have been viscously attacked and told I was going to hell for even suggesting that a hermaphrodite even exists. They are the mid-point of the sex spectrum with heterosexual males and females at both ends. Times are slowly changing and some people are starting to realize the absurdity of the religious prohibition against gays because of the genetic proof. Science, not theology.
Marriage between 1 man and 1 woman? Then just whom can a hermaphrodite marry? Telling me to go to hell for that question is not an answer. http://www.isna.org/faq/what_is_intersex for more information

Aphrodite and Hermes hooked up. Aphrodite got pregnant from the affair. Both Aphrodite and Hermes each said, "I wish the baby looked like me."
And because they're both gods and both powerful, but neither can negate the will of the other, they both got their wish. Hermaphroditos looked like both Hermes and Aphrodite at the same time.
And that's where hermaphrodites come from.
