The problem is most people have no fucking clue how personal finances work, or even how a small taxation amount of 1-2% adds up over time. Example, i had a guy in class, who was explaining how he would support a 5% tax to fund some female birth control movement proposed by Sanders in the primaries. The idea being that we pay a small amount now, for gains later. First of all, this as always shits on men by treating them as nothing more than money dispensers. But more importantly, the highest tax payers pay 40-45% of their income in some form of federal tax. Now you want to tell them they have to pay even MORE money for something they will never get? The more insidious problem, is that these policies being touted by hyper liberals will never, in a million years affect them since most of the will never, ever reach a point where these taxes would affect them. The phaseout limit would "conveniently" be over their own income tax. We see this time and time again, be it with the ACA subsidies, and EITC. Its nothing more than virtue signalling on someone else's dime. Sanders is popular because most people dont have a job, and have absoltely fuck all of a clue about how finances work.
