There is a very good documentary on Frontline that details the process that lead to the ACA. It is archived on PBS. There was lots of GOP input.

They had input. You say they forced the bad parts. Then basically the Democrats are fucking idiots since they allowed the Republicans to force them to put a bunch of shit in it when they had enough votes to pass it without them anyway. Quit blaming the GOP. The Insurance companies wrote it, but the Democrats passed it and own it, period.
