The evidence also shows an increase in burglaries and other violent crimes. Obviously banning guns and getting rid of them all is going to result in fewer shootings, but is that the goal? Because I think the goal shouldn't be to have fewer shootings, it should be to have less violent crime and fewer homicides overall. Here are statistics about the gun ban in Britan. http://crimepreventionresearchcenter.org/2013/12/murder-and-homicide-rates-before-and-after-gun-bans/ Here are some statistics about the gun ban in Australia. http://www.aic.gov.au/dataTools/facts/vicViolentCol.html
Do some thinking about the unseen and unintended consequences before you advocate for policies and criticize Americans for just needing "mah gunz"
Edit: In America it's very difficult to get automatic weapons legally. I think what you mean is semi-automatic, meaning a bullet is fired every time you pull the trigger, in an automatic weapon you can just hold the trigger and the gun keeps firing until it is out of ammunition.

Why is it always the people who know the least about firearms are the ones who want to ban them? Fully automatic weapons have been illegal in America since the 30s. I think what you're referring to are semi automatic weapons that look like full autos. For example, the AR-15. Also, the Charleston shooter used nothing more than a semi automatic pistol, the design for which has been around and in use for well over 100 years. To put that in perspective you're basically comparing WW2 era firearms to single shot muzzle loaders (same time difference.)

By your very nuanced terminology and eloquent points, I can tell that you are well versed US statistics regarding firearm related deaths and crimes.
Almost twice as many people are murdered by blunt objects per year than rifles in the US. And that number is on the decline! The FBI stats don't even break down rifles to differentiate traditional hunting rifles and competition marksmanship oriented rifles from EVIL BLACK SIMI AUTOMATIC ASAAULT RAFFLES!!! They're the ones commonly targeted by legislators. By the numbers, handguns are used in more homicides than rifles, all rifles no just FULLY AUTOMATIC AK-$& AL-QADA DEATH RIFLERS, by a factor of 20.
But I'm sure you already know that because you look at the numbers and don't blindly believe sensationalist media.

Well, almost all automatic weapons are already banned. You can buy some pre-ban auto's, but they are really expensive and I can't recall a single time that auto's have been used in any mass shooting. Can you?
