Well...Truth is in the eye of the beholder. When we're fed a stead stream of BS from the MSM, how the hell does anyone know what the truth is?

I was going to start this response with thats true, but now I cant even say that on reflection. Is there any legislation in place to respond to an allegation of fake news, I presume that if you for whatever reason knowingly or not pass forward what becomes known as 'fake news' thats got be very damaging. i.e. you have hurt my business and your claim that this is fake news is factually incorrect?

Well you have Libel and Slander laws. (I'm not a lawyer). But it seems you rarely see those sorts of court cases so I'm wondering if that's very hard to prove?

It's a term invented by the MSM shortly after Trump won the election that they will use to discredit anything that does not fit the left-wing narrative.

...and yes, it's definitely Orwellian Newspeak.

Whats the play here? Do the left want total monopoly on the narrative, that seems un-viable even for the most optimistic. I am really struggling to get my head around this. Right when I thought these people would have to back down a bit they are actually doubling down.

They do not need a monopoly. They only need to sow doubt. Investigation shows pedophiles in power? Claim it is fake news. Evidence shows Trump is succeding? Claim that is fake news too. Basically by shaking the faith of anybody on the fence vis a vis meaningful change helps the status quo remain as it is.

Well... Yes, they want a monopoly on what the average American will hear - that's power.

"doubling down" is how they operate, not doing so would be admitting they were wrong.

a lot of news out there is wrong. is some of it deliberately fake? sure. you get that with independent journalists as well as mainstream journalists though. there is source that holds some monopoly on true news or real news. there are legitimate controversies out there and most news is political and only show one side. there are also legitimate controversies between a group of idiots and a group of intelligent people, and when news only presents one side in that it is STILL being dishonest.

all news is political. all opinions when expressed in public spaces to other people is political. i don't trust the mainstream media to control what messages i can and cannot listen to or read. those people make just as much fake news as others do.

Does the prevalence and promotion of the term 'Fake News' cause you more concern than the usual horse manure most pass as news? Appreciate that since the dawn of time theres always been more than one perspective on any given situation and someone is bound to be closer to the truth than another.

what is "truth"? is objective, is it subjective, is it both? if you look at a sequence of events, but you have 2 people moving by those events at very high speeds, the laws of special relativity show us that they can experience the order of events differently. are both of their interpretations of what has occurred true? is truth universal for all observers? does opinion count as truth? i have philosophical problems with the question, because "truth" is not well defined. we know what it is kind of like, but different people disagree over what it means exactly.

does the promotion of the term concern me more than usual? its an excuse to censor and cut back on free speech. i am an ardent defender of free speech. i would defend speech that you likely would not.
