do be fair his comment can be interpreted that all men do good jobs but not all women. so it kinda is sexist and wrong, i've worked with some really stupid men and women. although i guess there is very little context to the quote so hard to say

I don't think he implies that at all, because the underlying implication is that men are getting paid more. So what he is saying is that if you do as good of a job as the men apparently earning more than you, than you will be paid the same amount. This is completely reasonable.

If the argument was "I'm a man and I'm not making as much as those women," then the rational response would be "Do as good a job as those women and you'll get paid the same amount." There is nothing wrong with his comment given the context and its hilarious Hillary is using his rational argument as an argument against him.

The only thing that comes to mind when I read his quote was how bitchy and smug she looked after asking the question.

Nah, only one way to interpret that statement, reasonably. It sets all men and women on equal footing, potentially. Any other interpretation is unreasonable, reaching and imaginative.

To be fair, men are generally better at some jobs, and women are generally better at others. Men and women are different mentally, just ask anyone who has trouble understanding the opposite gender. These differences probably affect the average performance of men vs women in some (not all) jobs. (though this shouldn't be used to make generalizations, it can explain pay levels, and gender differences in certain jobs)
