Yes, I picked up on that, or thought I probably did. It just didn't particularly pertain to my proportionality argument much less refute it. I was alluding to a larger issue of Hispanic attitudes about the role of government anyway. In surveys they come up decisively statist. They believe it is the proper function of government to take care of people. Hence they vote for the welfare party. How much they get compared to poor whites is a worthwhile side issue but does not address the fact that they vote as they do due to their big government inclinations or that they hold these inclinations at much higher levels than whites when comparing the two groups as a whole.

I do want to say though that looking over my wording I could have phrased it better. Instead of saying they vote Democrat because they get disproportionate amounts of welfare I should have said they vote Democrat because they want welfare and government assistance. Whether they get it disproportionately is not their focus.
So perhaps I caused this exchange to occur at all.
