I'm not so sure. They might be so crazy that they actually think that Trump has been completely ruined as a potential candidate, or that Hillary is good enough of a person to win on her own.
After all, they couldn't even keep their legion of "good" candidates in the running (even pulling Rubio out simply because he lost his home state, even though he was doing better nationwide than Kasich), and their "locked-in" Hillary stayed neck-and-neck with Sanders almost the entire primary (if you don't count the superdelegates that pledged their allegiance to her at basically the same instant that she announced her candidacy). They might have a history of corruptly trying to bend the system to their will, but it doesn't mean that they are very competent with it.
