What an idiot. I hate Hillary and will never vote for her but Ryan is being an idiot. There is a very good reason that the nominee from both major parties need to have that information it is vital to the security of the nation.
For those that do not know about the history involved let me give you a brief run down. During WWII FDR knew about the development the atomic bomb his Veep Truman did not. When FDR died and Truman took office he found out about the bomb and was fully briefed into all of the US military plans and operations going on at the time. The scale of what he did not know was shocking to him and made leading the country more difficult than it should have been especially while you know WWII was going on. Truman found the situation unacceptable and policy was changed the Veep from now on was going to be kept in the loop to prevent such a situation from happening again.
So now we move onto the next president Eisenhower he was from the opposition party he had no idea of the full scope of what was going on in government until he took the office of president especially concerning the USSR at the time. He was shocked at what he did not know and felt it hindered him, the military, and the intelligence services at the moment of transition. He changed policy so that no matter who won the office from what ever party they would not enter the office ignorant about the threats out there and provide for a smoother transition in the future.
Both Democrat and Republican presidents have felt that not having this vital information ahead of taking the office hindered and was a harmful to the security of the nation. Both Democrat and Republican presidents took steps to remedy the situation.
Edit: for people that need some evidence: http://www.booksamillion.com/p/Presidents-Book-Secrets/David-Priess/9781610395953 It is a historical run down on this issue about who gets this information and why.

When someone has been labeled by the FBI as negligent and careless with classified information, I think it is only common sense that person should not be allowed to receive secret information ever again.
[–] AlphaWookie 4 points 0 points 4 points (+4|-4) ago
That would override the will of the people if they where elected to the office. Despite the moral failings and character flaws the person is as well a vessel for the will of the people. They are endowed in a democratic system through the ballot box to receive the powers of the nation state this includes classified information especially in the modern nation state. If and I hope it does not happen that Clinton wins the election then the will of the people is that she lead the federal executive branch. You don't like that then work hard to ensure Hillary is not elected.
I'm a partisan but I refuse to be a partisan hack and put party or short sighted political gain above country or the will of the people.

Failing to inform Truman was one of FDR's greatest failures, right up there with the Japanese-American internment camps and trying to pack the Supreme Court.

I disagree with you on the internment during WWII but that is neither here nor there. Yeah Truman did not know about the bomb until 12 days into taking the office. Setting the bomb aside he was not briefed on the invasion plans for Japan absent the bomb until he took office. Packing the Supreme Courts was a true scandal. I am glad that the longer the nation gets from the presidency of FDR the more his reputation is tarnished and more of the truth is coming out. Sadly there are so many distraction that a lot of the general public is still ignorant.
