How about they cancel the World Cup and spend those billions to help the syrian 'refugees' find a temporary home in Qatar?
Oh yeah.. that makes too much sense

I see it as an upside. No soccer to attract even more Mexicans

A world cup victory or saving the country from ruin? Huh, I don't know how anybody could decide.

I thought we hated FIFA. Why would we want their stinky cup here?

We do, and FIFA hates the US. We're the ones spear heading cleaning the shit organization up.

Good, all that wasted investment will be saved. I lived in SLC, UT during the build up to the Olympics. Once it ended we were stuck with tons of hotels that couldn't support business and a lot of useless infrastructure. Money spend on these types of events could be much better utilized. There isn't enough of a long term benefit to hosting "games". It is a quick grab for cash for a couple business' and corporations and when the cash cow runs dry, they abandon everything to the people to maintain or deal with. Tax payers end up spending more money maintaining useless sites and trying to attract visitors and no one gives a shit once the event is over.

Soccer is more important than the policies of the United States? I am still laughing.
