Its not our job to protect people who won't help protect themselves.

Syrians need to contribute to the solution to their own war effort.

C'mon, you can't just throw untrained civilians into a fight with ISIS. And do you really want to train civilians who may use your training to kill your people later? Did you know the British trained Jews to fight in WWII and in return, those Jews used their training to kill British soldiers and Palestinians when they seized the land called Israel? Of think Osama bin Laden and the training we gave him.

Of course you can. That's exactly what a revolution is. We replace their inexperience and manpower with overwhelming and smart fire power. We give them superb leadership and communications capabilities. Let the women and children work the logistics and send the men to the front. If they want a country, let them earn like everyone else. They need to support their war effort.

You'd be amazed how fast an army can grow out of a well trained small cadre. In the 18th century the french became the most powerful army in history, and they they did while mostly on the march. They were well led, united in purpose, and driven by conquest. Syrians could do the same with the right support.
