Grew up Mormon. Long history of racism in church. 1978 was first time they gave black men priesthood authority.

However.

Mormons had an adoption program for Native Americans (and at one point, the current Mormon prophet said the kid's skins were getting lighter because they were adopted and being good Mormons. But, there are now many Mormon families who are adopting black children because they genuinely feel they can help orphaned children.
