I notice your post doesn't ask users how they want to see rules enforced.

Meaning, which rules should be "Rules enforced by moderator deletion" and which should be "guidelines enforced with user votes". As a subscriber to this system sub I request that you as level 2 mod amend the header of this post to ask the rest of the users to weigh in on this aspect.

You are dodging the issue.

You are keeping it focused on what rules should exist while avoiding discussing how they should be enforced. You are not letting the community weigh in on whether their votes or your deletions should enforce.

I knew you were going to pull some shady reddit shit like this.

I've seen you say before that often votes are coming from outside the sub and not part of the v/pics community. This is the main problem I have with your modding or approach to modding. This is a system sub that belongs to all of the voat community and I don't think some arbitrary 'community' defined by you should be somehow placed above others in importance when it comes to voting or having their say about rules. Voat IS the community for this sub and everyone should have a say in how it works. If you go by activity in the sub, then are you a part of the community since you contribute very little to v/pics?

@atko and @puttitout just showing you that there's a thread here about rules for one of your default subs.

What do people think about adding adding imgtc.com to the main image hosts on the sidebar? https://imgtc.com/

The owner posts here and recently bought some advertising for voat as well. Heres the thread about it. https://voat.co/v/whatever/comments/1202775

Another resource is always a good option - please add to the sidebar!

I would also respectfully suggest that SLiMG be moved to the top of the list as the first imaging site created by a Voater.

Rules 3 & 5 Should be guidelines that users enforce with their votes.

I agree with the tough but fair moderation approach of this sub where only the no-brainer rules and the rules to keep the sub cancer-free are enforced, but when they are enforced it is with hard deletions.

In an ideal world we could leave it to users to self-moderate, but we see often enough on Voat how submissions ridiculously out of place in their sub are upvoted into the triple digits if they happen to appeal to the circle jerk.

No overtly political content, where the emphasis is on the politics rather than any intrinsic artistic/aesthetic value. Please consider /v/politics, which allows images, for such content.

I think people should decide this by voting rather than a mod step in and decide if a picture is political or not. Is picture of the President or Putin political? It could be said so since Obama will be campaigning for Clinton as well and Putin is also affiliated with a political presence within Russia. If it's not breaking rule 3, I say leave it alone. There alots of pictures that can be considered artistic of political situations though.

Better to let the people decide.

I agree with this opinion - make this a GUIDELINE for vote-action with no mod interference.

[–] kevdude 3 points 8 points (+11|-3) ago

This should not be a rule at all. If there is user consensus that people prefer content not be political this should still be a vote-enforced piece, not a mod delete piece.

I think this rule has to go, its to easy to abuse as the term political content could be deemed to mean anything. This ind of rule is exactly how much of reddit's subs are censored.

I think this rule is to fuzzy and to easy to abuse by moderator bias. Is an image of the barren streets and nailed windows in Detroit too political? Is a picture of a statue of Lenin, Rhodes or Kaiser Wilhelm too political? Is a picture from the JFK assassination too political?

I am only worried about low effort image macros catering to the circle jerk, and they are already covered by Rule 3.

Agree that this should stay as a RULE and be handled by a Moderator for deletion.

Obviously sensible rule is obvious.

The sub is designated SFW by default so leave it as SFW please.

We already have other subverses for NSFW pictures. A system sub should be accessible to all users even if they opt out of NSFW material.

I'd like to see this stay as a RULE for Mod action; this sub isn't marked "Adult" and there's plenty of other subs for this type of post.

I dont see a problem with keeping out memes and pictures that aren't focused on the visual.

If we do keep this rule, I want to see how people feel about posts like this. I've considered this a grey area where it's a physical picture, but of a sign or text. Since I haven't been sure about how it falls into that category I've left them. However, I wanted to check to see what people thought about it.

Here's two examples of images that are focused on the text but still hold artistic merit despite that.

No image could convey the isolation of this town better than the two images I posted.

Those are both the same photo.

That being said, I completely agree with your sentiment.

I don't think it comes even close to violating the rule because it is a picture of a sign. Unless you were referring to the watermark... then I'm on the fence about it...

I think this should be a guideline that users enforce with their votes.

I have enjoyed this sub with the Rule 3 in place as-is, the focus being on the visual. I would like to see this stay as a RULE for Mod action.

As there are already v/gifs and v/videos as containment subs, this rule makes sense. Maybe amend it with a link to those two subs?

[–] Cynabuns 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Just a thought, but I think you could easily combine Rules 2 & 3.

Keep it. Especially don't allow link shorteners - they can easily be abused to guide users unknowingly to malicious websites, and I like to know what I click on.

Should your URL ever be too long to fit into the URL field (which I have never seen happening), just re-upload the image to sli.mg.

[–] Cynabuns 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

I think that this should be made a GUIDELINE to let the votes decide, no moderator action.

As an aside, linking to sli.mg may not be direct but it does allow the Voater-site-creator to earn a bit of revenue.

Why are we prohibiting url shorteners?

Because they suck.
