The photo is fine. I can't see my work, but then it's also slightly out of frame.

I guess the view of the ocean is nice, but this isn't a very flattering picture. Buildings in Vancouver are actually intentionally bland because the city doesn't want to detract from natural features. The advantage of Vancouver is the mountains, ocean, trees, etc. This photo's focus on the concrete jungle kind of omits those advantages and makes the city look generic.

Really? I never really thought about it, but I guess that kind of makes sense, if it's true. Do you have a source for that info?

I don't really agree with that though. I think more interesting architecture would only add to the beauty of the area. If we had more interesting architecture here (I am a Vancouverite), then we could claim to have beautiful wilderness, and a beautiful city. I, personally, think all of the drab concrete detracts from the overall beauty, and just makes for a boring looking city.

But hey, I can't afford anything here anyway, so why should I care?

I don't think it's really an official policy and I don't have a source. Closest I could come is the disagreements that occurred over the colour of the windows for the one wall centre. It's just kind of one of those things you hear from people who are politically involved. OTOH my understanding is that since the OWC incident, they've been looking at allowing more diverse architecture.

That pretty much sums up my view too. Visit Vancouver for sure.

Live in Vancouver never. Its not just wealth disparity in terms of some 'rich fat cats' vs homeless. Its actually one of the cities in North America that now has 2 quite distinct classes. The slave wage class vs the comfortable upper-middle class. There is very little in-between. The wage-slave class is large and they live by sharing shitty old apartments with 3 other adults (this isn't youth.. its 40, 50, every ages) and the slave wage class is so competitive that they keep themselves obedient and sell each other out, fight each other for 50 cent wages etc.

The GOOD thing about having a slave-class (though technically there is no actual 'name' or legal class yet) but they have zero expendable income for anything other than Netflix (shared by wifi by 5 other roommates) so as a consequence Vancouver has a pretty active no-money activity thing going on. Like walking parks, trails etc, playing wetgrass frisbee, park yoga etc.

Also, there is the hipster class who pretend to be slave-classers but anyways you can smoke weed with them. smoke weed but make sure its NOT a cigarette or you are fuckin shat upon. but yes smoke weed with trannies is okay.

This picture reminded me of the Every Frame a Painting video where the guy explains how "Vancouver Never Plays Itself" (supposing this is Vancouver, Canada).
