Dangerous to anyone who appreciates their civil liberties.

It might be IF the cult of personality is around someone who's promising more government powers, more social programs, expanding government.

'Cult of Personality' devotion might just help when it's someone who's railing against government intervention and control. So one example in my lifetime might be Gorbachev. Someone who was trying to return certain civil liberties to the public. His 'personal popularity' made it very difficult for the powers-that-be to ignore his mission.

Trump might be better compared to Reagan but having said all that Trump isn't much of a 'Cult of Personality' anyways. Its more 'despite his personality'. but he does have this 'old uncle at thanksgiving' factor that is endearing or really just hilarious sometimes yes.

Do you realize that the whole fear of safety to reduce personal liberties has been a republican thing from the start? Not that it can't cross party lines. Those in power have found it useful for supplication. Moving the yardstick doesn't help anyone. It's not the dems or the repubs who are the issue, it's the loss of power for the people.
