Thank you for jogging my memory. To be clear, the Wild Country Safari parks were theme parks, not National Parks, but the pictures are uncannily similar. Southern California even has a roughly similar geography and weather as South Africa.

I figured with legal-liability issues, there's no way a drive thru animal park could exist today in the US, but apparently there's still a Wild Country Safari park in Florida, and now I want to visit!
