It is eastern British Columbia. They have a more temperate climate and low rainfall due to the cascade mountain. They produce a lot of varietals found in Northern France and Germany. They are in the same latitude as Champagne. The dry summers forces the vines to dig deep into the soil which brings up more minerals into the berry. You want the vines to struggle since a lazy vine makes a lazy wine.. While there is a threat of frost the cool weather helps to keep the sugars down. High sugar means either a hot (high alcohol) or sweet wines since the only way to get rid of sugar is by converting it to alcohol. The Pacific Northwest is the best place in North America to grow french style wines.
