Unfortunately, almost, if not all, "Golden Tigers", are the result of heavy inbreeding to point that many suffer from otherwise uncommon genetic diseases. It's a sad novelty of a creature both beautiful and terrifying in its own right.
So, it doesn't need to be sedated to have a photo with it. Like instead of just lying on the ground, it's trying to kill me but it looks like he is swatting butterflies.

Saw several of these in person at a safari park in China last year. They are truly majestic creatures.
