With some magnification, the curvature is easily visible - like this at Lake Pontchartrain. I've seen it with my own eyes.

I've seen too the southern constellations slip below the horizon as I traveled north on a ship - with the northern constellations rising correspondingly. This is just as it should be when traveling on a globe.

Anyone can see these things if they so wish. No special access or exotic equipment is required.
