Yes, if people like to discuss about it they should move back to reddit or find a subverse to talk about it, its getting boring to hear about it in sooooooooooooo many posts. I dont even care about reddit anymore, I guess many people feel the same way!

I'm with you on that one. One day I will ascend to the status of Voat Member and I will be gifted with the power of down voting said posts.

I've been here for almost a month now and still don't have 100 ccp, I need to step up my commenting game!

Edit: Oh my goat! I just woke up to find that I have passed 100 ccp due to this comments. In celebration of this milestone achievement, upvoats for everybody!

Yes excatly man, I atleast have the time to write a few comments here and there while in reddit you dont even feel like participating to the post since there already are like 500 comments before yours. Also the posts arent filled people trying to bite each others neck and stupid comments.

I like how much smaller voat is, actually. I get that there's a massive crossover of userbase and, for that matter, content... but it's still not the corporate behemoth that reddit is.

[–] TheCatfish 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

It's a nice feeling isn't it. the smaller userbase at the moment definitely helps that along. I guess the CCP thing will help keep it that way for longer, make people participate more.

Yeah that shit needs to be contained in a subverse for talking about reddit so the rest of us don't have to have our front page cluttered with it.

[–] GeorgeBurns2 0 points 8 points (+8|-0) ago

Sure, that'd be nice, but just give it some time. Things will settle down, reddit was obsessed with Digg's self-destruction too, way back when.

To be fair, a CEO stepping down from a major tech company is news I'd expect to find in /v/news or /v/technology. It's only been an afternoon; the news broke and will quiet down again in time.

/v/reddit? That makes me wonder if there's an /r/voat... but not enough to go check.

[–] Pvt_Lee_Fapping 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

I like it here so much more than I did at Reddit. One thing I've noticed is that Voat has a lot of the same features you could only get with Reddit enhancement suite so I'm staying for sure. I do miss the quick-view function for opening images in the comments but that's nothing to sniffle about.

[–] Moiraine 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Actually, if you use Opera, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari, try getting Imagus. It shows you images on hover. And gifs. Aside from an adblocker it's possibly the single most useful addition to chrome... especially now that I don't need RES ;)

There are bigger issues at play. Reddit was becoming too corporate for its own good. We can't let the world think that it's okay to hand over a company to self righteous, greed-centric, out-of-touch, uncompassionate monsters. Reddit may have started out as a people-centric haven, but at some point it's head got too big. It was becomming soulless. We need to prove that it's still possible to start up a website in your garage and compete with the best of them. But most importantly we need to switch to voat to rid ourselves of the reddit circle jerk. Give reddit up to the SWJs and the cat-fuckers, that's where they belong. Dont sell your soul to a company that doesn't give half a shit about the people that actually create content. People get tattoos of fucking snoo. Christ, people- dont tote your goat this time around. Voat has the idealology that ideas are commodities and it is you that is important, not them. Have some self respect, don't worship false idols anymore, believe in yourselves.

It was seeing r/undelete that did it for me - I don't want to be somewhere that content is being pruned to a bias.

I left after the powermod cabal story broke on /r/conspiracy about 5 months ago and the user who wrote it got banned. That's when /r/subredditcancer started.

[–] Gooust 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

I never saw it, do I want to know how bad it is? Have I been wearing blinders? Is that what's on snoo's head because I always thought they were ears.

[–] rotten777 0 points 6 points (+6|-0) ago

I think it is more the shady crap than it is the corporate structure. I'm fine with it being a profitable business (it being voat, reddit, digg, slashdot, blah blah blah) but if you start shadowbanning and deleting valid content and have so much shadyness going on that there's literally sections of your own website dedicated to it, it has lost my vote and my content.

Embrace open. Embrace community. Embrace free speech (even the unpopular). Otherwise you will see mass exodus from your site just like a few that I've mentioned above...

[–] Gooust 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Oh yeah, definitely it's about banning and censorship. They really tried to dress reddit up and that has problems. Because people are a spectrum, nobody is all good. But it isn't even about that; my motto this entire transition has been thus:
First they came for the shitlords, and I said nothing.
Next they came for the trolls, and I said nothing.
Then they came for the karma whores, and I said nothing.
Finally they came for me, and there was nobody left to speak for me.

We don't have to agree with the voices, but nobody has the right to say who gets to speak and who does not.

Hi. Devils Advocate here. What is your (or one's) definition of "valid" content? For me, Embracing community, yes. Embrace Free Speech. Yes. but I think Reddit was in the right for getting rid of r/theFappening. Are hacked photo submissions a free speech issue? I ask because I don't know the answer. DoI like FatPeopleHate? no. Should they be allow to have a forum if they want? Sure. Because they are opinions. But posting content that wasn't yours. I don't know. I'd love your input/opinions.

I have a functionality question, that I guess I'll ask here since it's tangental and I can't find an FAQ subverse: How can I filter all of my subscribed subverses into one feed? On Reddit, when you log in, the "Front" page is specifically taylored to include your subscribed sub-reddits. Here, my front page is the same one as if I never logged on.

0

[–] MagmaGog 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

It works for me if I just go directly to voat.co

Maybe none of your subscribed subs have had any posts recently, so you're just seeing the content from the big subs.

[–] PeachesFromHeck 0 points 0 points (+0|-0) ago

Exactly. Those who are easily placated will just go back to memes and cat pics. But I think a lot of those who were soured on the site will slowly leave over time, especially if it continues like it has been.

I'm right there with ya. I'm subbed to some smaller subs that actually have great communities, some of which are not really affected by any of the stuff that has been happening lately. I'm not going to abandon those subs but I did find myself unsubbing from many of the more mainstream ones which now that I look at it I should have done a long time ago. As far as Voat, I am really liking the way things are run here and I'm excited for what the future holds.

0

[–] swartkrans 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Agreed the bigger subs there have much better versions on voat. There isn't really any kind of community at all on the biggest subs.

Under what condition would you consider returning to Reddit? Would would Reddit need to change to get you back there? It's a question that I need to answer for myself too. I don't want to stay off Reddit because I feel committed to my decision.

There's an entire culture of secret clubs that consist of admins and mods which allow some subs to get away with doxxing and brigading while others get banned just for calling people fat. This isn't going to change with new "rules". As has already been seen with the "safe spaces" BS. The entire thing is broken and has been for years. Shills modding subs, admins trying to turn entire subs into marketing centers. I don't see any way for it to come back from its current problems. What're they going to do, fire every admin and remove the mods from all of the big subs and start over?

0

[–] Qikdraw 0 points 9 points (+9|-0) ago

I was a regular poster in the /r/relationships sub for years, with a positive karma of 13k+. Eight days ago I found out that no one could see my posts, and it had been going on for weeks. I messaged the mods, not one response from them. When I accidentally messaged one from an alt account through PM and then after getting a reply back, told the mod what my main account was, all of a sudden my alt was locked out too.

I finally went and messaged an admin and they said my posts were being deleted automatically, but the the mod messages they have to manually delete. So no warning, no banning, nothing at all, just automatically deleting my posts. Every day I sent a message to the mods, so far not one answer, not even telling me why. One person suggested that it wasn't what I said in that sub, but maybe another sub. If that is true that is all kinds of fucked up. Talk about control issues they must have if that is why my posts are getting auto deleted. No courage to actually ban me either, nor even tell me why.

I used to respect some of those mods, but not anymore. If this is the road they travel then I don't want to be a part of that.

This is a great general community so far, but the problem is that Reddit has a large mass of niche communities. Trying to relocate them here will be impossible for many.

I am enjoying the discussions here but I'm sticking with Reddit for the special interest communities so far. I think many will be doing both for a while.

Don't think I ever will. Like the smaller community people seem more personable and generally actually read shit before posting.
