That's something i've never tried, but it's always intrigued me. Is it a hobby of yours? I was thinking of buying a detector off craigslist, but would more than likely wait till winter, so the prices will be lower.

Yes. I don't do it as much as I used to.

My advice. Get the best one you can afford. Decide where you will be detecting most .. ie .. the beach ... in parks and or soil. There are detectors that are more suitable to each area. Most detectors are set up to look for coins and non-ferrous metals and screen out anything made out of Iron. But some people "Relic hunt" and look for say old iron guns and other things made of Iron. There are special detectors made for iron as well. Whites or Garret are good brands.
