The left only cared about free speech so long as it suited their agenda to do so.

Be a champion of free speech while still weak but then seize power as quickly as possible and silence all dissent

Pointing out their hypocrisy is irrelevant because they only support things as ends to means, they only support stuff to support an underlying agenda they don't support the thing they claim to itself

They cannot win arguments anymore in a free speech forum because their positions are completely contrary to reality, so in order to protect their narrative they have to get violent and try to shut others down

This is why yuri bezmenov called them political prostitutes

People who dont share our culture and don't even have the common decency to learn our language when coming in don't support one of our most treasured and uniquely stubborn concepts. Funny how that works

So I've seen this picture about ten times today, and something is fucky with it. Look at the writing on the signs, particularly the S and the R. It's the exact same font, handwriting, style, whatever. Also, the C on the burning sign seems cut off.

This looks photoshopped.

I thought the exact same, then I did some digging, and it looks like both are genuine.

Here are multiple images of the 1964 picture from different angles.

And here is a video of the burning of the 'FREE SPEECH' sign.

The original sign almost looks like cloth, while the modern sign is cardboard. But the lettering is undeniably exactly the same. Could they have copied the original sign and printed it on the modern sign?

[–] go1dfish 0 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago

Thought the same thing, seems deliberate though, whoever made that new sign was copying the original.

[–] anonnynonny 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

Looks like they printed out the letters and pasted them on to the poster board. As they are burning it, the pasted letters are slipping off.

There are multiple pictures of the left one from diff angles. The right one is captured on video. It looks weird because the letters are slipping off the cardboard

As an old-school liberal myself, nothing irks me more than the short sighted idiocy of today's young liberals. From 'safe spaces', to segregated dorms for people of color, it's all foolishness that wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't also so harmful. These people have no sense of history or worldliness.

I get it, everyone want's their own civil rights movement, everyone wants to fight what they view as injustice. But those battles have already been fought and won. Everyone in the U.S. now has the same rights under the law. Now all that's left to fight are imagined or fabricated injustices, like transgendered bathrooms.

As a liberal, these people embarrass me.

Muh fuhreeee speeech!

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Let me know when that happens alright?

Yeah, and we've gone from people agreeing that it's a good thing, to not. Everywhere I look, I see kids, foaming at the mouth, who desperately want to make "racism" illegal. Hell, "hate speech" is a horrible word being propagated in an attempt to separate "acceptable" speech from that which should not be allowed. It's subtle, and it's degrading the foundation of a lot of the freedoms people in the states have now.

First step is making it a fine-able offense to say some things, last step is book burning and firing squads. These kids need to be taught exactly why rioting against "free speech" is absolutely retarded.

[–] NoMoreScreenNames 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

They know already ; they just assume they'll be the ones giving the orders to the firing squads. They're not well meaning idiots ; they're evil, just impotent-evil (for now, and may it stay that way).

You realize free speech is a moral concept along with a legal one, right? We defend free speech as an integral part of our nation itself. Publicly funded universities are preventing people from speaking their mind. These brainwashed students are basically leftist useful idiots coming around to shut down dissent. Universities are supposed to be places that challenging opinions are discussed openly.

It is fundamentally against what we as Americans consider moral to shut down discussion at a university even if we dont like it.

The first amendment doesn't apply only to congress, it applies to all government entites and has been ruled as such in the supreme court over and over again when those rights are violated

The concept of free speech is not the same as the first amendment guarantees of free speech.

If a local mall decides to eliminate free speech on thier property, they haven't violated first amendment protections, but they certainly have violated the concept of free speech.

I notice that people who don't think very often, and who don't think very deeply, always get confused about the principles of free speech as somehow being limited to simply repeating the first amendment like a trained parrot.

Something like,

Man, my job sucks. Can't wait until I save up enough money to move out. Whatever, at least I get paid to be on the internet all day. These people on voat are really racist, though. Oh, look. I just got a deposit to go downvoat some more stuff.

[–] Goathole 4 points 1 points (+5|-4) ago  (edited ago)

You know what? What the hell, I'll give it a shot.

Because people are stupid, rhetoric driven and biased. I didn't downvoat this post but I should because this person either doesn't understand what freedom of speech is or he's being willfully ignorant and partisan to serve his own beliefs and agenda. I get whats trying to be said here, and I kind of agree but, it's wrong.

Here's another one, front page top of /v/all right now and 6 comments hurping derping along with the typical warrior worship propaganda that has consistently gotten us into trouble for the past......oh idk, 60 years.

This politically, right now, reminds me of post 911 specifically when people were shouting idiot things like "if ya don' wanna stand behind ar turoops den ya can stan' in front'm" or "we gotta get'm o'er dere before they come over here". My god people, use your heads. Open a history book, quit fucking your sister and put down the meth.

So lack of actual discussion and a real dialog. I agree and can see that myself, especially in the younger and college aged population. I really think in ten years there will be zero logical debate and gainful discussion on any issue and it will degrade into what some politicians are calling for, "bloodshed and death in the streets." I will source my quote in an edit need to look up who said that real quick.

here is the source of the quote by Loretta Lynch. I know I'm not spot on but I'm not going to bicker over semantics just at the moment. http://www.commonsenseevaluation.com/2017/03/05/video-111/#sthash.XgmkeRda.sfju
