I found the lazy pet owner.

I've owned cats my whole life. You can train them to stay off the table. It just requires a squirt bottle, vigilance, and patience when you introduce them to the table. You personally may have been too lazy to ever accomplish it, but I assure you it is possible. I mean, they might still get on the table once in a blue moon, but OP put the cat's bowl on the table and invited it up there. Cats are trainable, but most people don't know that it's a completely different process than with dogs, and so become frustrated when the cat doesn't respond like a dog.

I didn't even need the squirt bottle for mine. Voice alone was enough.

Yeah, I guess I was assuming that the individual who was implying it was impossible, had tried the easy way.
