The SR-71 had a radar cross-section (RCS) of around 10 square meters. Smaller than the plane's size but not really stealth. ground radar wouldnt have a problem tracking it. Ground radar would have a hard time figuring out what it was im time to lock and launch a missle. None were ever known to have been shot down.

Nothing about turning on the transponder. How would ground radar get a bead on them?
