Perhaps there's a relationship with the ever decreasing infant mortality rate? Whereas previously children that were suffering from illness, premature birth, defects caused by malnutrition or prenatal complications, etc., would die, perhaps now they live and are more likely to have lower IQs due to difficulties in their development?

Except that, by definition, the average IQ is, was, and will always be 100, because IQ is a strict bell curve, then yeah

I see what you're saying. They list more tangible evidence in the study like decreased average reaction speeds of people and how that correlates to intelligence.
