first read the manual for your motherboard so you know where to plug everything in. were you using it before without issues? if it worked before, your boot drive is probably dead. that's the only reason it would just stop showing up in bios. the sata ports are all on by default usually. unless you've been turning things off in bios. the best steps for troubleshooting are probably:
reset bios to defaults > sata defaults to on. reset and check for a drive listing.
new sata cable and old boot drive. > os should show on boot if it's the cable.
new sata cable and new boot drive. > load os to test for function.
if it won't see a new drive with a new cable and you reset the bios already your talking about a motherboard issue.

no worries. just go to the manufactures website and search for your motherboard model. you should be able to get a pdf manual download there.
