If I recall correctly, back in early 2012, Re-logic has announced that Terraria would get one more patch and that would be the final version on the PC. That was followed by an announcement a couple of months later that Terraria would be coming to 360 and PS3 with all sorts of extra content.
Needless to say, people weren't happy, as they interpreted that to mean that the developer as having used the PC version as a "beta" of sorts and was going to "cash in" on the consoles and would lock the PC players out of all future content.
That being said, Re-logic did go back on all that and did continue developing the PC version and in late 2013 released a pretty major patch, that expanded the post-1.1 endgame with Christmas and Halloween themed content....and, much more recently, Re-logic released another content update that was as large as the 1.1 update that added in yet another layer to the game, expanding the old endgame (basically, being to Hallowed as Hallowed was to the base game).
If you haven't touched the game in a few years, I'd recommend gathering a few friends and playing through again, as the game has, at minimum, tripled from the original product.
