I got Starbound when it dropped, and it was fun but flawed. They recently did an overhaul, about 4 months ago, I think. Anyway, I reinstalled the game, and I was stunned. It still needs work, but it's 100% worth the money. I just hope this means I'll get controller support.
Huh. Didn't know about the overhaul. I suppose, I'll have to go and have a look at some point, as I had liked the concept, but found the game to be utterly dull to play around the time of launch.

Well, yes, but after they made that announcement, I've lost all my interest in playing the game. As a backer, I figured the same thing that happened to Terraria would happen to Starbound if they announced any console version.
It's one of those games that sounds great on paper but with execution you see all the issues with the gameplay aspect.
The planets are so large and fuel so plentiful you only really need to strip mine the surface and move onto the next, except for one off boss elements needed further down the planet and even then you don't have any idea if they are actually present. And once you beat the boss you can move onto the harder planets where those elements are now close to the surface and can be strip mined too.
There was also the plan to build a base on a planet but chances are by the time you do so, you'll have stripped the planet of anything useful or meaningful aside from the constantly spawning mobs that will harass you anytime you leave; so you instead just make base within your ship.

Is Starbound any good? Does it seem like it will be finished?
I like the idea of the game, but early access scares me off now.

The overhaul did change a lot but it didn't really fix issues, just turned them into other issues.
