The leaked specs for Ryzen 2 chips are surfacing at multiple retailers,
with the 7 3700x coming in with a whopping 12 cores / 24 threads,
4.2GHz base & 5.0GHz turbo,
only 105w TDP, and a measly $329/$370,
while STILL supporting AM4 MoBo’s,
Intel is going to have to either start dropping prices, or get a 7nm 5.5-6.0GHz chip out PDQ.
Being one of the AMD converts, having been lured in by AMD’s 7 2700x,
which now sits in my x470 board, churning out renders while still having enough room to let me use my computer normally,
I’m already sold on Zen 2.
Oddly enough, it wasn’t the pricing for the 2700x that enticed me so much as the amount of cores
that you can fit into a base-consumer chip that would fit into an AM4 socket.
Boasting great render times with actual gaming performance,
my 2700x paired with my GTX 1080 gets me 100+ fps in Far Cry 5 with ultra settings + AA.
AMD has been regarded as the ‘poor man’s CPU’ for as long as I can remember,
and for good reason.
It was.
No competition at all to even Intel’s budget i3 model CPU’s, barring Threadripper.
Now, OBVIOUSLY I’m fanboying hard over Ryzen 2,
but seriously, even Intel users should be, for good reason.
Intel, having NO competition for decades,
now has to kick it into overdrive to remain competitive,
let alone to keep the lead.
We’re going to be seeing a new golden age in computational technology,
where prices are dropping to outsell their competition,
chips getting even smaller to pack as many cores as possible into them,
and TDP’s possibly dropping, giving even more performance at lower temps and power.
AMD fans, this is the performance you were waiting for.
Intel fans, this is the competition you didn’t know you needed.
...Now if only AMD’s GPU division can get their shit together.

The 8350 was the heart of my first self built rig and its still running strong in my wifes build 6 years later, my next chip is definitely going to be zen2
