I'll echo Puddl3glum and say that reusing Dell's case might not be for the best. Check out Newegg's in-house brand for a case. They are cheap and perform fine.
With that low of a price range you will be better off putting the SSD on the back burner. Build what you can and when you get an unexpected $150 you can always slap one in later. DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THEM FIRST! Several brands have debilitating problems.
Unless you plan to edit videos or do some seriously CPU intensive tasks don't even consider an Intel I7. I may get shit for this but I wouldn't consider any of AMD's CPUs.
Graphics Card wise I'll let someone else suggest something but this is where your budget is going to really show. $600 is a bit cheap for a gaming rig. If you want something to last at least 2 years without an upgrade you'll need at least $800. 1 grand to make it sweet. For your gaming rig the lack of money to spend on a graphics card will be your biggest limitation. But do your homework and don't skimp on anything else and you can easily replace your graphics card at a later time.

I just got into grad school so the stipend will help with the upgrades nicely! Just needed a base to get started then the upgrading won't be that much of a worry soon.
