Anyone ever heard, or was taught as a child, the story of Squanto, or some other such Injuin, catching a fish from a nearby river and then planting a few seeds with the fish in a hole.. and thus because that one plant grew the Settlers were saved the winter?
So basically fertilizer is nitrogen compounds, which the fish has because protein breaks down into nitrogen compounds. Do you know what else also has nitrogen? Diluted piss. Which is what most fertilizer is (either that or concentrated piss). Of course Europeans would already know this. Is the claim really that Europeans didn't know how to farm.. especially an isolating religious community similar to the Quakers, Amish, and Hooderites?
