What I've been doing is about 3-6 months is the limit, and I judge based on relevancy and vote count. This is open to change, however.

I also think it would be a good idea to define 'recent' (and the rule as a whole). Someone may take recent as a week, but others may say two weeks (or longer).

/v/WorldNews' rule two is nice:

  • [2] News must not be older than seven days at the time of submission.

Doesn't have to be seven days, of course. If it is older than x days, it could still be posted if it is 'newly relevant' :)

Thanks for the feedback. As of now I just look for this year but that method will be an issue at the beginning of next year. Maybe a community poll would be best.

My thoughts are that the birther movement isn't being discussed currently. Which means that it isn't relevant to today.
