It always seemed counterintuitive that 'news' should only focus on one country..

Does it not also seem counterintuitive that "news" should exclude one country specifically? Compounding the fact that a great deal of the site's users are US-based?

I honestly never understood the reasoning behind removal of the US from worldnews outside of a need to be elitist. If we're going to use a different sub just for US-based news, regardless of the fact that we have a relatively small userbase, then why stop there? Why not create a sub for every country's news and then make /v/news a place to find links to other country's news? Likely because it's an easy to find location... and it's a default.

My vote is that we leave /v/news open, and if someone wants to make a niche sub to specify a country's news articles that they do so of their own accord and not because their links being forced out of /v/news simply because they're from a specific country.

US news shouldn't be excluded specifically. It's really a question of whether domestic news should be included from any country. At the moment /v/news is basically a cross between /v/WorldNews and /v/USNews

as it's just called 'news' I think it's reasonable to expect that it would have a broader focus.
