I got a question. Would you eat genetically modified food if it were produced by some other company? Monsanto is a pretty shitty company, but you do realize you are against science if you're against all GMO's period. Criticize Monsanto all you want, just don't be ignorant of basic biology.

Fuck Monsanto, but it's ironic that the advertising on behalf of the plaintiff here is considerably more "false". Glyphosate (Roundup) targets ONE enzyme, namely 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate (EPSP) synthase, found in plants and bacteria (including human gut flora). Not sure where they're getting the value of "about 300" enzymes. Not to mention the dramatization of enzyme inhibition as "killing" a non-living molecule.

I'm not defending Monsanto, and I definitely hope they lose. But it's ironic that the plaintiff feels the need to use the same methods they're criticizing to accomplish that. Scientific accuracy and honesty is important despite your agenda.

They are exaggerating, Monsanto is trying to make the misleading ad into something bigger than it is, probobly saying that if one enzyme is safe, then all are from the poison. either way though it IS misleading because that enzyme if found were they claim it not to be.

The active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, is also known to cause birth defects and the public was/is actively being kept in the dark about it.

I'm not a lawyer, but wouldn't it be some sort of ethics violation or (if you are right and they die) manslaughter? Like, "Here, if this gun isn't loaded, put it to your head and pull the trigger." If you're asserting that something is dangerous and dare someone to drink/consume/use it, I would think that'd be a case of "Hey, you might be right, don't do this or you'll have blood on your hands" thingie. shrugs

I can foresee local aquaponics to be the solution to this sort of problem. I'm already doing a small system at home. Have almost no problems with pests and it's all organic and fresh.

It's one thing doing it at home as a hobby project, but it's another to do this on an industrial scale. It's low effort to throw seed in the dirt and harvest once a year. Especially if you are growing on thousands of acres to feed entire states.

I think this is something that anyone can do at home on a family-basis that does not require large industries to distribute food (although that is already happening). Aquaponics allows for harvest many more times than once a year, and allows for growing plants indoors. Where I'm from at least, it gets cold and snowy out and I only have the summer to do this outdoors. I've been thinking of doing this indoors but I have to consider the costs of indoor grow lighting, and the space required. My family also isn't keen on letting me do this indoors even though I've proven to them that this thing works. It's going to take some progress in the collective mindset for people to take this sort of responsibility to grow their own, but I think it's inevitable and food security is always important.

Glyphosate was declared a Class 2A carcinogen, which is in the same category as being a hairdresser or shift worker with a disrupted circadian cycle. Not that it isn't dangerous, but just putting things in perspective.
