Don't most middle class families have multiple cars? Every house in my neighborhood has a car for each parent and at least one for the school aged child. Oh and the dad's always seem to have "project cars".
Yes, but then you'd need two city cars for the parents, one city car for the kid, AND one gas 'long distance car'
Either way you splice it you'll need the extra car. And if you argue "why can't one parent just drive the gas car full-time" then we come back to the dilemma of "why buy an electric car in the first place?" People are practical. Unless there is a huge motivator, usually money, they won't make the move.
Or I live in an urban area. Majority of people live in urban areas. Sure you have the Subway and public transit but considering there is an average of 2 cars per household in this country I would say my statement is pretty valid.
