All that does is open up a different avenue for silencing and intimidating people for practicing the right to free speech. Whether your life is ruined through being imprisoned or unfairly fired/made unemployable doesn't matter. It's basically the same thing except in prison they still feed you.

You have the right to free speech, not the right to avoid consequences.
It was fair though. If Mozilla were to continue Brandon's employment, it would have cost them a lot of money and marketshare. His actions were reflecting on Mozilla, and they decided that the negative press from people who support gay marriage was not worth his value as an employee.
Except in the real world, you are free to find another job. It's your fault if no one will hire you for the same job as before. No one cares if you donate to anti-gay-marriage organizations at McDonalds store #34587. You don't have a constitutional right to be employed in your field at the same position you were at at a previous job.

By that logic the government has the right to imprison and torture you for it and label it a "consequence". No right to "avoid consequences", remember? That electric shock to your balls? Just a "consequence", brah! Feel free to keep speaking, you have the right!
There was zero cost assessment done to keeping him vs firing him. A tiny amount of people pretended to be outraged over a private position that was in no way associated with Mozilla and fired a guy the majority supported or didn't care about. His value as an employee was that he started the fucking company and that Mozilla has become an unusable pile of adware infested shit since and has been dumped left and right.
Except now in the real world you are forever tainted as homophobe/transphobe/literally Hitler any time someone searches your name on google before hiring you. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter. The end result is exactly the same as making free speech illegal and the government can easily exploit this avenue. And it doesn't matter if you're a CEO or a McDonalds trainee since all it takes is one person to snitch on having seen the McDonalds trainee at a Trump railly. The end result is that you can never utter a personal opinion deemed "controversial" or "politically incorrect" if you want to hold down a job, which is the foundation for every aspect of a normal life. It doesn't even matter if you said it on the job or not. This has the exact same outcome as banning free speech does.
Hopefully you never say anything that could ever be construed as a negative by any special snowflake in the whole wide world since by your logic it's perfectly fine for you to never be employable afterwards ever again. Of course judging by your politically correct shilling you shouldn't have that problem.
