I'm sure if there were less regulations they would chose to do the right thing.

I'm not sure they would have become a protected megacorporation without the help of big, unconstitutional government no matter how many regulations you put in place.

Idk we could have the regulations in place but whether or not they enforce them is another story. Especially if the entity's they are regulating helped put them in a position of regulating said entity.

Edit: plus a 3 million fine for 4 billion reaped criminally isn't much of a "enforcement".

You left for the bottom line profit and increased shareholder value.

Otherwise, not much of a surprise.

Oh don't worry. They will get fined a hundred thousand dollars (of the millions that they made doing it) or so. You know how it is.

Prohibition creates black markets which will perpetually propagate the substance in question. This isn't rocket science, it's an established fact, yet we have too much greed, money and power farmed up by the black markets and the enforcement and punishment support systems to stop it apparently.

The fact that weed is still a schedule 1 drug is a giant gaping hole in the credibility of our system.

I once saw an interesting documentary on some Pacific island nation that had a problem with it's natives sniffing glue. They had a factory and of course someone discovered you could get a buzz from the fumes. These were some ignorant natives, barely a generation or two out of being savages, hence they were what we'd call borderline retarded. They have some of them get into the glue like aboriginals do when they find some substance the magic white man has produced.

So, the authorities panicked and outlawed glue sniffing. It instantly became a black market item that got pushed by people wanting to get other's hooked so that they have more customers. It became an epidemic and the crime went wild around the whole issue.

I was pretty struck by that because we're talking about glue. Glue is what fucking idiots huff. I've seen the dumbest blacks you can imagine snap on their brother who was huffing glue. They turned him in. The entire lot of them never seen a pill or bag of weed they wouldn't jump on, but glue, nope.

If they would have left it alone, the natural order of things would have sorted it out. A few dumb ones would brave the way and become cautionary tales as to why you don't act a fool and have anything to do with it. Nobody would have been pushing it to make money, nobody would be paying big money for it, there wouldn't be addicts who commit crime to get the big money for it, and the taxpayers wouldn't be footing the bill for cops, prisons and the whole mess.

It's expensive to police a society of it's stupid behaviors. Nature will do this for us if we slap the hell out of the self appointing hall monitors of life and tell them to mind their own business and keep their fingers out of the law and people's lives. We'll have some cautionary tales worth every dime they cost and we'll evolve through it.

When you start telling people what to do with their bodies in their personal life, you have to engage in the destruction of personal liberties which is monumentally costly to not only the wallet but to quality of life for all. Let nature do it's job, because we suck at it.

Duh, burn their brains out so they need more drugs down the line just to keep their body functioning normally.
