It sickens me how Muslims try to use religious freedom as a license to violate the full spectrum of human rights including the obliteration of a women's identity behind an Islamic hiding mask and within a hiding sack and the pedophilia of child brides.
Given that Islam promotes bashing women for any reason, the concept of consensual anything in an Islamic marriage is ridiculous! Most Muslim countries have horrific domestic violence rates, such as Afghanistan, Egypt and Pakistan with rates of around 85%... it's essentially a Muslim national pastime to bash your wife!

I definitely see your point, but there is the security issue. A burqa is equivalent to walking around in public wearing a ski mask - no one has any way of knowing who's under there. The hijab and the abaya are still allowed, though, so religious expression can still be honoured.

I don't like any religion but in Britain we already have a creeping culture of censorship and telling people how to act. Freedom of religion is paramount to an open society, whether the rest of us agree with them or not. We had the same shit with the Sikhs and Hindus in the 70's and the Irish Catholics for 300 years before that. In Britain, or at least Scotland, after a generation they tend to drop all that dogma and live like normal folk

so what? when that person commits a real crime, then we'll talk. wearing a ski mask is not a crime that i'm aware of, and if it is, it shouldn't be.

Well we don't let people run around naked either, so it seems you have chosen a pointless line of reasoning here.
More to the point, the choice for muslim women to wear this hideous thing is made muslim men. And the rape culture in muslim society exists precisely to enforce compliance.

that's what's called a false equivalency

Would you also feel comfortable for Muslim men to lead their wives around by a chain through their nose, like a dancing bear?

Though I'm supportive of the basic argument (and would oppose banning other Muslim clothing such as the classical headscarf unless you also forbid Cross pendants or Sikh turbans), I do share theamazingsamurai's concern about security issue - you could, for all intents and purposes perform a bank robbery wearing one without being recognized.
Following the same vein, I actually would argue that Sikhs in the United Kingdom should not be allowed to wear their Kirpan (essentially a small iron dagger) because of religious reasons - unless, of course, you allow everyone to carry bladed weapons for personal self-defense or whatnot.

That's baby boomers for you. They need a temporary jack to the economy and more hospital workers etc.. and they'll be but a traitorous anecdote in history when their children have to deal with the real fallout.

But she really does want to wear a burka! What? No, for the last time she fell down a flight of stairs into a doorknob!
