Are you kidding me? That's social suicide. What kind of parent would send their smart kids to a school that allows guns on campus? Arm the fucking US Iraq war veterans to guard the kids. Not a student that has a mental fucking breakdown per finals.

Edit: "Not ANYONE can get a license to carry". Did you even read the fucking article? Concealed carry is allowed for anyone with a gun license. Open carry is a separate law. Everyone gets guns. Texas has incredibly loose gun license handling. It's almost impossible to find someone out of Austin that DOESN'T carry a gun.

Perhaps a parent that doesn't want their kid beheaded in the next muslim attack?

Rules, Laws, not even demonstrated history of capital punishment will keep murderers from killing people. Shooting the mother fucker in the head will absolutely 100% of the time stop them.

Do you live in Texas? Because I do. Suburb of Austin as a matter of fact. Also I happen to work around the campus area from time to time. You know what else? Off campus housing doesn't allow firearms. So there goes, I'd wager 1/3 of the students who can't carry. And given the current political climate and attitude of college age kids I'd wager the majority wouldn't even consider carrying and also all out of state students couldn't get a license without being a resident AND you have to be 21 to buy a handgun in TX. So now we are talking about a very small majority who would even consider carrying let alone able to carry. You think out of that small margin one of those kids who went through the hassle of buying a firearm and getting a licence is going to snap and shoot up the school?

So basically only seniors and above that live at home (in Austin) are allowed to have guns. Just about typical for what passes for equality and rights today.

I don't think you fully know what you're talking about. There are no gun licenses in Texas, or a majority of the US. The permit that is referenced here is entirely separate from owning a firearm, and in most states requires that one take an intensive course in firearms handling and situation management. This course is often expensive and requires an additional background check. Therefore, while any non-felon above the age of 21 can buy a handgun, only those who have taken the course and get the permit can carry their handgun.
