I have to say, this is an odd case. On one hand, I see no inherent flaw in the idea of searching through the information of a dead terrorist, even under our system. Nothing you find can be used to oppress the dead guy. Its not really any different than searching through the dead guys house.

On the other hand, demanding that they create a version of iOs for that phone that bypasses encryption is not the right answer as that can be applied elsewhere. This is ultimately what Apple is objecting to.

So truth be told, I have no moral objection with the request to unlock the phone, my disagreement comes with the method they are demanding that Apple use to unlock it.

OP does know that if Trump was in office, those towel-heads wouldn't have even been allowed into this country to begin with, and no further camel turds would come after him? Whereas Borderless Bernie would let everyone in and not "discriminate," because blah-blah da Shoah?

OP always ends up being the same person scared of Trump winning the general, shilling "Now that Trump [did something the media intentionally misconstrued] I can't vote for him, who's with me? Come on guys they even showed a photo of him mid-breath with wind messing up his hair, only an idiot would vote for him at this point." Can we imagine if we were that pathetic that we went onto SJW forums to say "herp derp I love Hillary and her policies on womens boobies but gee I dunno after she didn't donate money to Susan G. Komen for the Cure I don't think she's a real progressive" like fuck get a life, after all this you're probably going to sit at home smoking pot thinking "convincing other people to vote the way I wanted was more important than casting my own vote" along with every other millennial

No kidding, what self respecting person would ever vote for someone that has wind blow their hair around? It might as well be Putin blowing him over!

OP here. That analogy breaks down when you acknowledge limits. I wouldn't move if a black person moved to my neighborhood, but if a gang started to kill whites I would. I didn't change my voat when he went after Snowden and said he needed to be brought home for justice, but I do no that he continues his anti-privacy rhetoric.

I was with you all the way up to the point where you generalized all millennials as cunts. And I'm somehow classified as a millennial, despite being 27, so go fuck yourself. Not all of us are self absorbed, egotistical meglomaniacs.

Well, maybe but that's not really the issue at hand. If Apple (or anyone else) is made to insert backdoors or security loopholes into their equipment so that the feds can take a look around whenever they feel like; you can guarantee that those backdoors and loopholes are not just going to be installed on the phones of terrorists. You can also guarantee that the feds aren't going to be the only people using them.

It's basically the same thing as making master keys for all door locks because locked doors impede firefighters. If you're in a burning building it might seem like a really good idea to you, but doesn't mean the guy trying to illegally enter your home can't get ahold of one of the keys and use it too.

Here is the problem with this entire thing. Trump as president would not have that power. If the president had that power, do you think for one second we would be discussing this, because Obama sure as fuck would have just done it.

Realistically, I don't care how much the president wants something, it's not going to decrypt a well encrypted block of data. That cell phone might as well be a brick.

Right, because no government would have any interest in the mass surveillance of their peons if it weren't for them dang terrorists.

"I care about the 4th amendment, well I say that anyhow, but because we have a president whose policies I don't agree with, I blame all our societal ills on him, and say, FUCK THE FOURTH! Surrendering our right to privacy is now essential, but only if it's done by my politicians, because otherwise it's still the worst."

Things must be nice and simple in that boorish, hate-filled head of yours.

I just thought you should know that a vote for Bernie Sanders is ultimately a vote for me.

Simply put: (Sanders2016) + 1 = President Donald J. Trump(2016 +2020)

I appreciate your support, let's make America great again!

Question. Why do you hate due process and the 4th, 5th, and 10th Admendment? Seriously NSA has some serious government over reach. Frankly I'm not seeing much difference between you or Hillary on this. Bernie has issues of over reach in other area's. Is there no room for someone who believes in the Constitution and core idea of the United States America anymore?

Frankly this elections is a shit show.

Edit: Awe did I hurt someones feelings?

John McAfee...

I wish I was kidding though. I mean I like him and everything he's said politically but he has less of a chance of winning than Rand Paul... which is less than zero.

As a Rand Paul supporter that will vote for Trump. I know it's BS, I just don't care anymore. Fuck all these idiots. Trump is crazy and Washington deserves him. I'm planning on making lots of popcorn.

10 bucks says OP was never a Trump supporter to begin with

I disagree with Trump on this, but it's obviously because he doesn't know enough about the issue to have a solid opinion. The way he says "it's the one case" makes it readily apparent he doesn't know enough about software back doors. In his mind, it makes total sense because we can "just unlock this one guys phone, so why not?" He needs someone well-informed to explain the situation to him.

I agree with him on many more things than I disagree, and am not petty enough to let a single talking-point deter me

Also, this entire situation is a PR move by Apple, and it wouldn't surprise me if it's a psy-op to push public trust of Apple's relationship with law enforcement. What kind of information could you pull off the phone that isn't already on the "cloud" or traceable through the vast NSA spying network?

OP here. I love how you did a psycho analyzation of me based upon a link, and a phrase. Simply put, we live in times that deal with much greater things than race, gender, and refreshing reality tv stars who say non politically correct things. My biggest fear is that people will have control over my privacy; with the knowledge of someone always watching people will hesitate to step out of line. The world is walking a very scary line right now and most people are talking about the wrong issues.

I'm asking this, not challenging you.

Do you think that the FBI has no reason to see what is on the dead shooters phone and no cause to get a warrant or subpoena to do so or do you think the FBI should not have access to a version of iOS that allows them to get into any iPhone without a warrant?

This kind of thinking is the reason so many Americans are willing to sacrifice their privacy. All of the NSA's spying and metadata didn't prevent San Bernardino. Why continue to give them more power?

Its crazy that people here who are mostly Conservative want the government to force Apple to allow someone in the government to backdoor a phone. I thought the government was horrible and needed to be eliminated? That the government smashed our constitutional rights? Yet you're supporting the government doing just that...

Its completely ok to want a libertarian night watchman state utopia, who stays out of business/finance, defunds all social programs, kills all tax, welfare, education, infrastructure funding, deregulates everything, so long as they also socialize corporate losses, endlessly feed a military black hole budget, and put 1984 surveillance into every home.

[–] toobaditworks 0 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago

The trick is to make you think that there isn't already a backdoor.

OP here. This is exactly my thought. Trump is so great because he is so anti-establishment(which most associate with establishment with government) but sides with things like this. The whole election is a mind-fucking.

i just dont see libertarians getting too much support from anyone not dependant on the government... and thats a lot of people.
