I'm pretty sure taxing us travelers to Mexico would severely hurt a lot of US owned businesses, I.e. travel companies and resorts, and it would severely hurt international relations with Mexico....

But it's OK, because you aren't running for president!

Surprisingly, there are still a few in business. I pass one for work every now and then. I don't think that it makes sense, but old rich white people who are scared of the internet need someone to plan for them still

Ummm, I think that's part of the point. The travel companies will push their customers somewhere else, and as far a Mexican Resorts? They're primarily owned by non-Mexican entities like AMResorts (a subsidiary of Apple Leisure Group) - Pressure from these corporations can have an alarming affect in countries like Mexico.

I think those relations are already in shambles. Heard of the drug cartels? How about the illegal immigration problem? And government backed exploits of cheap labor, like what is happening with Carrier and GM moving their plants to Mexico. How is that helping Americans?

Yes, I've heard of drug cartels. Yes, I've heard of undocumented people coming to the US.

Are we done asking redundant questions?

About companies moving their plants to Mexico in the first place... How would taxing people at the border stop that directly? What you would need to do is either create tariffs for the actual things being made in Mexico (which I'm 100% in favor of), or weaken NAFTA itself.

By the way, Bernie was against NAFTA and predicted the auto companies moving to Mexico in the first place, and he is also against the TPP.

Donald Trump has gone on the record saying that wages are too high, and loves the TPP and NAFTA because they are good for businesses.

Edit: I'm on mobile and auto correct is crazy..

Good. Bring the manufacturing back home from Mexico.

I'm not talking about manufacturing, I'm talking about the travel industry. Manufacturing would still stay there, and most employees don't commute to Mexico for work, they live there. The people that do have to work won't care about the tax because it will be written off as a business expense.

mexico is a trash country, and travel agencies will be fine as long as people are still going to any other country

I'm talking about the resorts in Mexico. Also cruise ships.
