He also opposed Merkel’s plan for an EU quota system, saying “quotas only increase the incentives for migration”.

Note the articles use of the word migration.

She has pledged to reduce arrivals by more quickly turning away “economic refugees” and combating traffickers, including through a new NATO surveillance mission in the Aegean Sea.

And the use of the term economic refugee.

“How can a continent of 500 million citizens see its foundations shaken… by 1.5 million or 2 million refugees?” said Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen in Munich.

Where do these migrants go? Cities. A place where housing is expensive, land is at a premium, where although humanitarian outreach orgs may be concentrated, the ability to house and employ people is absolutely not primed. While managed migration is very possible for the EU continent, unmanaged migration is an impossible situation.

Angry over calls that Turkey should do more, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last week that his nation could throw out its existing refugees, threatening to fly and bus them to Europe.

Its interesting that Turkey feels its being generous to the EU. Perhaps because the EU has signalled the flung open border crossing. Or because NATO membership implies shared load.

Perhaps because what the EU should be doing is investing support in Turkeys capacity to deal with syrian refugees. On their soil.

Turkey and the EU should work together, in the EU taking in refugees from Syria, from Turkish refugee camps, in the cooperation of investing resources in refugee camps in Turkey. This situation allows the apparatus of targeted/managed migration for the most vulnerable to be built.

The current policy is about importing migrants from a Turkish shore without any question to their relation to the Syrian crisis which started the policy, and its feeding back into a situation which puts more and more economic migrants on Turkeys doorstep. Its no wonder Turkey is not averse to the refugees getting on the traffickers deathboats.
