Not sure if putting a 15 year old in prison until he's 40 is sane.

Infact it isn't. But what they call "justice" is actually revenge in disguise.

The whole swatting thing is just insane and mostly only an american phenomena, it is not this 15y/o fault if the cops are blood thirsty and seek any possible excuse to murder, torture and destroy the life of random people.

Yes, he made a mistake and yes, he needs some kind of corrective punishment for it (say forcing him to work for some months for his community for free)... but it is not the 15y/o who shoot, injured and perhaps killed someone because of incompetence, that's is fully responsibility of the cops who went there and shoot an unarmed person in his own house only because someone made them a phone call.

But the kid knows the cops are like that and sends them in. He is at fault for that.
The cops are a different problem, you are right. But that is what makes the kids actions so bad. He sent killers after innocents. He is a criminal, and responsible for his actions.

The fact that the cops can also be murderers does not change anything.

That's why he needs some kind of corrective punishment, but not certainly 25 years of pointless jail. He sent cops at the house of someone, not murderers, he probably didn't even think at the possibility that someone would get injured, he is a 15 years old and teenagers are not well known to be very thoughtful about the consequences of their actions... all what you can say is that his action did cause an unnecessary waste of time and money, but it was the cops who shoot, it was the cops that acted in an irresponsible way, it was the cops that over-reacted.

We can't blame this teen for someone else's actions. Yes, he has been a stupid, yes, he called the cops over nothing, but 25 years of jail? They are just unjustifiable, besides, they don't aim to correct this boy in any way, they are only going to destroy his life. That is revenge, not justice, it doesn't even resemble to justice.

It is the same as if he was behind the trigger.

Getting swatted is no joke
